Curatorial Statement:

In a time when global climate change can feel daunting, gathering, sharing, and collaborating offers a way forward. This exhibition goes beyond the images; it encourages a vital space for collective dialogue, knowledge exchange, and action planning. It challenges us to engage with the realities of climate change while centering on indigenous knowledge, cultural practices, and innovative approaches to climate action, explored on continental, local, and personal levels through the work of each photographer.

The visual storyteller's role in climate action is often overlooked. However, they have the ability to drive change by bringing to light underrepresented challenges and solutions. As seen in the work presented, artists make global challenges tangible and personal, guiding us toward a sustainable future.

This exhibition features visuals that highlight the climate challenges faced by communities in 4 African countries, namely Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe. Importantly, they also show the remarkable ingenuity and resilience of people as they adapt. You'll find stories about innovative waste management, communities rebuilding after floods, struggles in fishing towns as waters warm, and the reality of rising seas impacting coastal areas. These works reveal our environment's fragility alongside the human spirit's strength. They also encourage us to consider our daily choices and shared responsibility for a sustainable future. This collection directly connects to global goals including ending hunger (SDG 2), creating good jobs and economic growth (SDG 8), encouraging innovation (SDG 9), building strong communities (SDG 11), promoting responsible consumption (SDG 12), taking climate action (SDG 13), and protecting life in our waters (SDG 14).

This exhibition is an invitation to engage with current environmental issues, to recognize the strength in collective effort, and to celebrate the African-led solutions contributing to a more sustainable and fair future for all.
